Rise in Chronic Disease

It isn’t just platitudes—chronic disease is a significant issue in the United States. Forty-two percent of Americans suffer from at least two chronic diseases, and at least twelve percent of Americans are living with at least five chronic diseases. To give some perspective, a chronic disease is a condition that lasts a year or more and requires ongoing medical attention.

With ninety percent of the nation’s health care expenditures spent on people suffering from chronic illness, it’s time for us to start taking whole body health seriously. And MAHA intends to do just that.

Chronic illness isn’t only expensive; it accounts for most illnesses, disability, and death in the United States. The CDC identifies key behaviors contributing to chronic diseases (tobacco use, poor nutrition, lack of physical activity, and excessive alcohol consumption, to name a few). Still, we know it doesn’t stop there. For too long, the information needed to make informed decisions about health has been suppressed or out of reach.

By focusing on root cause identification and helping connect people to the proper health resources, we can make a dent in the chronic illness crisis in America.
